The Pumpkin Kueh Project

Butternut Pumpkin. About 600 grams

Without the skin, it's probably down to 550 grams.

I steamed it for awhile to make it tender enough to mash.

Moist and tender after about 6 minutes in high heat.

Mashed it I did.

Next, I mixed 300 grams of rice flour, 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp salt with about 3 cups of hot water. (which includes the water used for soaking the dried shrimps and mushrooms)

I stir fried the dried minced shrimps

Then, I also stir fried some minced lean pork. Afterwards, I drained the oil (because pork is usually stinky). Oh, I also seasoned these fillings with 1 tbsp salt and 1 tsp white pepper.

I added in the mashed pumpkin into the flour mixture

I mixed it until everything's well incorporated

Then I added in the filling.

Then, I poured the mixture into the wok and turned on the heat. Low heat only.

Continuous stirring is needed so that the mixture won't get burned.

Mixed until my arms hurt.

There ya go, mixture has reduced and thickened. At this point, you could actually taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning accordingly.

Oooh. A blurry photo.

Once the mixture is thick and a bit dry, pour onto the steaming tray.

I steamed it for about an hour, but that's just because I'm too kiasu. I'm scared it's not cooked enough. I think steaming it for about 40 mins on high heat is enough.

Aaaargh. This is the tiring part. Cleaning!

*Photos of the finished product will be uploaded next time.

* Taste-wise, it's okay and interesting. After pan frying them, it was crispy outside and moist and creamy inside. My flatmate said she liked it better than the radish cake (from project 1, which was okay but only half as good as the radish cake project 2). Yey! I'll be a Kueh Queen soon.

Grrr moments

I just snipped open a box of salt & vinegar rice crackers and it slipped from my hand and spilled on the floor. Grrr.

I just finished pouring the caesar salad dressing on my chilled lettuces, and noticed there were dressings on the cap. After trying to scrape off as much of it, I was going to discard it when it slipped from my hand and spilled on my slippers. Grrr.

Last Week's Lunch

At Zhou's Kitchen. At Far East or China Square. I'm not sure anymore.

It's a super sulit (worth it) meal. SGD8++ for 1 main dish (I chose the braised pork with yam), 2 pcs cabbage and pork dumpling, soup of the day and bowl of longan with fruit cocktail dessert. Add SGD1 and you get a cold drink.

Only the fried egg looked unappealing.

All in all, it's about SGD11 nett. Super worth it.

Chicken curry somewhere at The Sail.

It's worth it as well. For 4.50, you get 2 big pieces of chicken. It was nice and filling, except I prefer curry with a bit more sweetness and creaminess. This one was leaning towards the salty curry.

I'm Your Worst Customer

It was nice, original flavour yogurt with my favorite fruity pebbles, another layer of yogurt, some cereal thing, another layer of yogurt and fresh raspberry for only 5 dollars.

I was happy, a half-the-guilt dessert! But, while attacking the last layer, I found myself having difficulty chewing on something. I thought it could be the cornflakes, so I spit it out. Gaaaak! A glass chip. Dammit! What if it destroyed my tooth enamel? And I'm so careful when it comes to my teeth because of my previous molar problem. Grrr!

The chip of glass. >:/

*****************************************************************

As a paying customer, I don't complain much. Well, I do, but not verbally anyway.

Especially in food establishments, because I don't want my food to be spit at.

I'm not very particular with taste, I'm not picky.

But when something's wrong, I tell people. You know, the word-of -mouth thing, I'm usually one of the sources.

So, when you go to this yogurt place in Marina Bay Link Mall, be very careful. You might be swallowing something non-food.

Writing Like a Doctor

My goodness, look at that. It wasn't this bad before, but now even I couldn't understand my own handwriting at times.

Cheat Day Starts on Friday Night

At Orchard. Friday night dinner with friends.

Everything looked so good, because we were sooo hungry. This was about 8pm.

Our 10 dollar pizza dough. Deductible from the bill, if paid using Citibank credit card.

Chicken lettuce wrap

Their bbq chicken salad. Love the veggies. Actually, they can remove the bbq chicken and it would still be okay.

*clearer shot

White corn chips with spinach artichoke dip. Sinful.

Eat!

Yum yum. It's the same concept as 'hieng din tsun gwan'. The dish that we always ordered whenever we ate at Emerald Restaurant along Roxas Blvd. in Manila.

You just put some meat and sauce on the center of the lettuce, roll it, and eat.

Wild mushroom pizza sans the chicken.

Goooood.

***********************************************************

Not sure if we're just hungry, but everything tasted good. Service was fast too.

We spent SGD25 per person, and there were 3 of us.

I think the price is reasonable.

For Blogging's Sake

The Baskin Robbins in Velocity Mall is finally open!

Between Baskin Robbins and Ben & Jerry's, I'd definitely choose Baskin than Ben, because Ben is just tooooo sweet.

But then, the last time I ate Baskin Robbins ice cream was about 2+ years ago, and this was in Malaysia, so I couldn't really remember how it tasted like anymore.

For the sake of my blog, I bought a junior scoop of Strawberry Cheesecake (SGD4).

He's scooping my order.

Junior is really junior. As in, about 6-7 spoons worth. And the spoon is small.

I'm disappointed though, because I wasn't thrilled by the taste. There's strawberry and big cheesecake chunks in there, texture was creamy too.. but, there's just something missing.

Maybe it's me, maybe I've outgrown ice cream.
